Crazy Women? It’s Okay
Have you ever wonder why? Why do we study women’s psychology in every English class? Why do we care about what women thinks so much? Why do we learn about crazy women? United States, in fact is not a very old country. 200 years of history is not that long compare to other nations that are existing today. At the same time United States has the most immigrants and cultures, which made us the most complicated “New World”. In this New World we are all created equal by god, men and women. Through out history we know that women complain about their life, all of them. Have you ever read about women’s happy life? That kind of things dose not exist, not even in the bible, which prove that our almighty god cant even make women’s life perfect. In the movie The Hour, Virginia Woolf and Laura Brown seems to have a good life, husband, kids, and huge house. What more dose women want? Too much freedom they don’t think you care about them and kill themselves, too little freedom they don’t think they have enough room to breath and still kill themselves. Maybe women are meant to be crazy, maybe women will go crazy no matter what you do, maybe we should just let it go. It is okay for women to go crazy, even though life is perfectly fine. Let’s prove it by looking at the life of Virginia Woolf, Laura Brown, and then let us look back in to this issue.
In the movie The Hour, Virginia Woolf in 1923, a writer in England who is starting her book “Mrs. Dalloway”. She sort of find out she is lesbian and was fighting her headaches. One day Virginia’s sister Vanessa paid a visit to her and brought her sons and daughter. The daughter placed a strong influence on Virginia’s emotion through a death of a bird. Later in the movie Virginia must face to either run away to London or to stay with her husband. In the end she killed herself to prove something, that maybe I will understand it if I ever watch the movie again. Virginia had a good life. She has a husband that dose all the work, all she had to do was just get up, drinks some coffee, and writes her book. Her husband loved her and wanted to take care of her. He was worried about her health and keeps asking if she was going to see the doctor and stuff. Virginia’s life was pretty much perfect but she was still depressed about a lot of stuff, which I don’t really care or understand why.
On the other hand we have Laura Brown, who fears of her motherhood after the Vietnam War. She was just a woman that was crazy in the head, made a cake and throw away because the cake was not perfect. Laura was planning a perfect birthday party for her husband. Laura thought that she can not be a good mother to her son and the up coming child in her belly. She had two choices run away from her house or to live with her beloved husband miserably. In the end she chooses to run away after she gave birth and turned her son gay. She was having a good life, I don’t know why she ran away, and it’s probably the book Mrs. Dalloway’s fault. Yeah if you are crazy women already please stop trying to read a book by other crazy women, which will just make you even crazier.
In the United States, we care about everyone’s right, everyone want a piece of “freedom” that was listed in the Constitution. That’s why our women care so much about themselves and went crazy. In our mixed culture society, we have a model for our women, a model that made other culture’s women a freak to us. For example, women in Saudi Arabia had to cover themselves from head to toe. American women will thinks that is wrong, not right, women should be able to show themselves in public. Why do you care? Saudi Arabia women doesn’t seem to have a problem with it, it is just their culture. Our women don’t even feel like women anymore. In all those rap songs we heard “I am a female pimp.” Even worse we have a woman who is in our next presidential election. We try to force ourselves to accept other culture’s women but at the same time we disapprove all the other culture’s women. We think the women who are under men’s control are weak and stupid. Women thinks too much, and they tend to think about some problem that doesn’t exit.
Women will go crazy no matter what and it is okay for women to go crazy. In this mixed society of ours, it is especially hard for our women. Our women’s life is not as simple as other society; women have enough to worry about so why try to become men. Our country is still a very young country compare to other nations. We have different kinds of women we should let them be themselves instead of telling them what is the right model of women. Not even god can help women and their emotion. How can we ever learn what is in a woman’s head, or ever understand them by reading and writing about them. |
