Public outcry after soldier s death .

Tens of thousands of Taiwanese people took part in mass demonstrations after the death of army corporal Hung chung-Chiu last July .

He was caught carrying a cellphone w/ camera on base .

This was against army rules .

He was put into solitary confinement .

Hung died after suffering from heatstroke and dehydration that led to organ failure .

Nearly 20 officers involved in the case have been charged .

President Ma Ying-Jeou apologized to Hung s family and offered monerary compensation,

which they refused .

They would only consider it after the truth was revealed .

This incident improve the human rights in the army .
