吳寶春求學記爆出真假議題的爭議，社會觀察家南方朔在《明報專訊》發表了一篇名為「台灣的重文憑但又不讀書」的文章，痛批這是經紀公司利用吳寶春炒作的假新聞，還被拿來連續炒作3天，竟連馬英九總統也跟著民粹議題起哄，充分顯露出社會的病態。

南方朔在文中指出，吳寶春的一個朋友建議他去新加坡國立大學的EMBA班申請入學，他在台北《天下雜誌》所公開的一段影片中也表示無法在台灣深造的遺憾。但就是這麼簡單的兩個動作，上個星期卻被他的經紀公司及台灣媒體大炒特炒，簡直炒成了天大地大的新聞。

他還痛批媒體繪聲繪影的報導吳寶春向台灣的政大及中山大學的EMBA班申請就讀但被拒絕，而新加坡大學則派了十幾個口試官來台對吳寶春口試，其實這些都是子虛烏有的謊言，南方朔指吳寶春根本就沒有向政大及中山大學提出申請，至於新加坡方面，吳寶春只提出了書面申請，根本未接獲對方的口試通知。

這些假議題，「台灣人才流失」、「台灣不重視人才養成」、「台灣之光在台灣不受重視」等民粹話題開始高漲，政大和中山大學也被媒體罵得體無完膚，電視台名嘴趁機大放厥詞。南方朔表示媒體和名嘴完全沒有追究事實的能力，以訛傳訛吹風煽火，南方朔還指最糟糕的就是台灣政府的表現。台灣政府在許多大政方針上超級的沒有效率，但一涉及這種民粹議題，馬英九也立即站了出來，表示教育部應修改法規，讓吳寶春可以在台灣念EMBA。

南方朔表示整起事件乃是吳寶春的經紀公司的傑作，他的經紀公司利用吳寶春是個「台灣之光」的名人身分，結合了媒體，將新加坡重視吳寶春這個人才而台灣不重視這個人才大炒而特炒，炒成了一個民粹話題。

而台灣的媒體也完全沒有思考的能力，跟着起哄。彷彿像吳寶春這種人去新加坡念EMBA，就是台灣的奇恥大辱，這就是典型的民粹主義。難怪台灣的《中國時報》要說「吳寶春上學記，一場灑狗血的連續劇」了。如果吳寶春這種「台灣之光」的名人可以念EMBA，近年來台灣的各種名人多矣。

如果吳寶春可念EMBA，那麼其他「台灣之光」也要念EMBA，那該怎麼辦，繼吳寶春的新聞後，另一個著名的台灣廚師「阿基師」也表示要念EMBA，名人要去念EMBA，在不久的未來，肯定會成為台灣EMBA教育上的重要話題。

最後南方朔引用同樣是上星期文化部公布的一份資料，「台灣人平均每天看書時間只有40分鐘，每年花在買書上的金錢也只有1536元，每人每年平均只讀兩本書」指台灣社會雖然很重視教育文憑，但整個社會其實並不喜歡讀書，除了課本之外，不會去多讀一點其他的書。

而台灣不重視技職教育，不重視一般的人文教育，這遂使得像吳寶春這樣的名人，在投職有了成就後，也想去大學的EMBA班就讀。整個吳寶春上學的故事，就是一齣經紀故事炒作新聞的荒誕劇，它提不出一套完整的說理，它是在用「台灣之光」名人的大帽子在壓所有的人，而第一個被壓倒的就是台灣的政府。

南方朔在文末中說，他似乎並沒有聽說過哪個米其林的大主廚還要去念個什麼EMBA班的。他表示台灣的整個教育體系的確出了嚴重的問題，台灣人重文憑，但卻又不讀書，不T能自主的追求知性與靈性的自我成長，那才是問題的關鍵！
