Recently "M-shape society" has become a buzz phrase.the term is in the headlines and all over the news.but what does
it actually mean?
The ideas of an M-shape society was put forth by japenese writer Kenichi Ohmae. After observing statistics in japan,he
found that wealth in their society was distributed in an M-shape.Ideally,there should be few extremely rich and few
desperately poor people, with the majority of people falling in the middle class. But instead, the middle class is shrinking
,and the numbers of people in both the upper and lower classes are increasing. The rich are getting richer and the poor
are getting poorer.
Businesses and consumers alike must adapt to these changes. As consumers are pushed out of the middle class, they
may hava to make do with fewer luxuries than they're used to.Businesses can cater to an M-shape society by providing
goods that feel luxurious but are reasonably priced. For example, one company in japan is selling high-quality kitchen
goods for a cheap price. They are able to do this because their products are manufactured in China instead of Italy.
Society may be changing, but we can all learn to roll with the time.
