When I was in high school, I had a young English teacher. Because I don’t have good memory, I don’t remember much of him. However, I always remember one thing he taught: an old song. Perhaps because it was not a part of the textbook or perhaps because he sang the song in classroom for us, even after 33 years I still can remember that day. My teacher always looked like a very serious man. On that morning, though, he showed abundant feelings when he sang that song for us. At that moment, he became my hero: a teacher who would go outside textbook to enlighten his students.
As time goes by, I forgot most of the lyrics. Today I looked it up on the internet. The title of this song is “Silver Threads Among The Gold”. It can also be found in youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWsf0Aj0cPc). Here are the lyrics:
Darling, I am growing old,
Silver threads among the gold,
Shine upon my brow today,
Life is fading fast away.
But, my darling, you will be, will be
Always young and fair to me,
Yes, my darling, you will be
Always young and fair to me.
Chorus:
Darling, I am growing old,
Silver threads among the gold,
Shine upon my brow today;
Life is fading fast away.
When your hair is silver white,
And your cheeks no longer bright,
With the roses of the May,
I will kiss your lips and say,
Oh! My darling, mine alone, alone,
You have never older grown!
Yes, my darling, mine alone,
You have never older grown!
chorus
Love can never more grow old,
Locks may lose their brown and gold;
Cheeks may fade and hollow grow,
But the hearts that love will know,
Never, never winter’s frost and chill;
Summer warmth is in them still;
Never winter’s frost and chill,
Summer warmth is in them still.
