THE DISTANCE IN YOUR TOUCH

Your closeness is not near enough;
the distance in your touch compels
a reckoning of spacial stuff--
a face-to facing of mere shells.

Then eye strikes eye--what swiftening chords
inspire the whole implicit score
of music tangent in the words
the heart intones thru eye-rapport!

If lips could take the radiant stroke,
transfer the light thru fluent pane
of blood, such awkward words we spoke
were not redundant nor in vain.

But lips are flesh..and cannot tell
how limbs have crippled love--how words
or kisses lash the eyes, expel
thru wounds the tortured blood of chords.
