Did you know that bamboo grows flower?

While some bamboo species flower regularly, most take a long time .

The Japanese Timber(Phyllostachys bambusoides) bamboo only flowers once every 130 years.

When flowering does happen, all the bamboo plants in a region flower at the same time .

Unfortunately, bamboo flowers often cause trouble for people .

The mass flowering creates so many flowers and seeds that the rodent population usually rises rapidly .

When the bamboo flowers are gone, the rodents start eating farmer s crops - often causing famine .
